Grammy nominated soprano Caroline Worra joined the 2007-2008 roster of The Metropolitan Opera and covered the role of Mrs. Naidoo in Philip Glass' Satyagraha. She sang Jenny for the Grammy Nominated CD of The Mines of Sulfur as well as the title role for the recently released CD of The Greater Good; The Passion of Boule de Suif . The New York Times and Opera News named the CD one of the Best Classical Recordings of 2007. She has been on the roster of New York City Opera for six seasons. A recipient of the Richard F. Gold/Shoshana Foundation Career Grant, Caroline has also sung with Glimmerglass Opera for six summers. Glimmerglass highlights: Eurydice in Philip Glass' Orphée; Boule de Suif in the World Premiere of The Greater Good; Jenny in the American Professional Debut of The Mines of Sulphur; Amy in Little Women; Mrs. Mueller/Katy Wendler/ Madame Kakonyi in The Good Soldier Schweik; Youcka in L'Etoile. Caroline has sung leading roles with other notable opera companies as well. She made her European debut at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, Sicily singing the role of Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress. Throughout the United States her operatic credits include: Kentucky Opera as Constance in Dialogues of the Carmelites; Dallas Opera as Lisette in La Rondine; Opera Memphis as Micaela in Carmen and the title role in The Merry Widow; Long Beach Opera in the title role of Semele; Chattanooga Opera as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro; Kansas City Lyric Opera (Curlys Wife) in Of Mice and Men; Connecticut Grand Opera (Donna Anna) in Don Giovanni, (Musetta) in La Bohème; Gotham Chamber Opera (New York City) in the title role of Arianna in Creta; L'Opéra Français de New York in Desperately Seeking Thais; Maison francaise (NYU) in La Voix humaine; Ned Rorem's 80th birthday celebration in New York City in A Childhood Miracle; Los Angeles Philharmonic with Maestro Pierre Boulez in a concert version of Parsifal; Opera Idaho and Cedar Rapids Opera (Musetta) in La Bohème; Cedar Rapids Opera as Adina in Elixir of Love, Just Jeanette in the World Premiere of Edwin Penhorwood's Too Many Sopranos; Quad Cities Mozart Festival (Donna Elvira) in Don Giovanni; Pittsburgh Opera student matinee (Violetta) in La Traviata; Pittsburgh program (Anne Trulove) in The Rake's Progress, (Gulnara) in Il Corsaro, (Mélisande) in Pelléas et Mélisande; Bloomington, Indiana (Governess) in The Turn of the Screw, Indiana University Opera (Alice Ford) in Falstaff, (Donna Elvira) in Don Giovanni, the title roles in The Bartered Bride and Agrippina; toured the country twice with San Francisco's Western Opera Theatre (Violetta) in La Traviata and (Rosalinda) in Die Fledermaus. Ms. Worra was a featured artist in the Sound Bites article in the December 2005 Issue of Opera News and gave a Carnegie Hall debut recital in Weill Hall in New York City in February 2006. In April 2006 she gave a recital as part of the Richard F. Gold Concert series as a New York City Opera featured artist. This past year was her fifth year with NYCO's Showcase of American Composers (VOX) and she just completed her third year as part of the American Opera Projects (AOP) workshop. Both groups designed for the creation of new operas. On September 11, 2006, Caroline was one of the featured singers for the families of the 9-11 victims. This past fall, she sang Mahler's Symphony IV in a UNICEF Benefit Concert in Louisville, KY.
